Paul Stentiford : Director

I have been a club member of ST Columba & Torpoint RFC since September 2017. I started with the club when my young boy decided he wanted to follow in my footsteps and play rugby as a sport. I was approached by the club youth chair and asked if I would help coach the youth as I had a training and coaching background from my time serving in the British Army for 24 years in total. I took on the role and found myself being more and more involved with the rugby club while at the same time building my coaching profile and rugby skill level.

I played rugby in my school years at Plymstock School and then continued when joining the army playing within my unit, with some time spent playing at Colchester RFC & Royston RFC. When a position on the charity board came about, I was more then happy to take on this role as I have plenty of experience working within a charity role from my time in the British Army. Since leaving the Army I have worked for 3 local companies, Princess Yachts Ltd, Babcock International and currently Newman Haulage Ltd, each time picking up new skill sets that will undoubtably assist me in the role as ST Columba Rugby Ltd, Charity Director.

My goal is to help the charity grow across Devon and Cornwall, to grow ST Columba & Torpoint RFC club facilities, educate local youth and young adults on the advantages of a healthy lifestyle by using the ETHOS of RFU – TREDS – Teamwork, Respect, Discipline, Sportsmanship.

Lauren Harris : Trustee

I started following rugby after the iconic 2003 England world cup victory and started playing in 2015. I was welcomed into St Columba and Torpoint women’s team in 2016 and have played with them ever since all over Devon and Cornwall.

Being a part of the rugby community is more like being a part of one big family. Everywhere you go everyone is always welcoming and friendly and this of course includes Torpoint, which is one of the main reasons I continue to play here and was more than happy to be on the charity as a trustee.

My main goal in this role is to welcome more girls and women in to rugby and to introduce rugby in to schools. This is important to me as someone who has come through a local schooling system wanting to play rugby but had no resources or support to do so.

I am looking forward to the challenges this position brings me and working with other club members to bring our visions to reality.

Keiran Moon : Trustee

Torpoint and Wilcove has been my family’s home for generations, and as such I am proud to call myself a Cornishman. I attended Torpoint’s Schools, was a boy scout under the wonderful Val Pearn, and a St. John Ambulance Cadet under the irreplicable Roger Cooke.

Although I love sport, God never blessed me with skills good enough to play at an advanced level, and I am fine with that. It was the team element of sport which I most enjoyed, just being with friends, having fun and being a part of something. I played rugby and hocky at school level and then at university swam as part of the lifeguard team.

My career in local government, as a children’s services officer and then Registration officer has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge of policy, procedure, law and customer service. My work with Devon and Cornwall Police taught me additional person, decision making, training and management skills. Regretfully I was medically retired due to ill health in 2017.

Since that time, I have made myself busy in our community, as a town Councillor for two years, as a volunteer with the Friends of Thackes Park, working with my local neighbourhood association, and am now honoured to sit as a trustee for Torpoint & St. Columba RFC and Torpoint Rowers Club.

Latest Achievment

This year we successfully raised £5500.00 through donations, grants and funding from Cornwall Council, Torpoint Town Council, Torpoint & Rame Peninsula Lions Club, Devon RFU and the RFU. Our brand new pitch lights run on large batteries, this means they last longer, are much brighter and much better for the environment. You can read about our latest achievement here.

St Columba relies on sponsorships and donations to continue to provide the many experiences for young and low-income members, who rely on our club to improve fitness, create friendship and be part of a Rugby family.

Your donations impact our club members every week, enabling us to provide a safe and secure place to train and socialise. St Columba & Torpoint RFC is a registered charity and all of your donations are fed back to the club facilities for community events, community support and community outreach.

Using Donerbox (located on the left) you can donate to our charity as a one-off or as a monthly donation.

If you are a business (or individual), you can sponsor us for up-to two seasons for club kit, social club advertising or for an advertising slot on our website.
